Let’s put Taita Taveta on the National Map. First Lady Urges

Speaking at the Youth Entrepreneurship Summit held last week on Friday, Her Excellency Madam Stella Samboja, urged the local citizenry to collectively strive to prominently put the county on the national map.

A county that has perennially rested in the shadows of other coastal Counties or Towns such as Mombasa observed that the best way would be to adopt, embrace and nurture worthwhile initiatives that would socio-economically empower all.

Her Excellency has been at the forefront of some of the transformative initiatives inclined towards health, education, and empowerment, especially for women via her capacity as the County First Lady.

She recounted a couple of projects over the past few years in which her office continuously collaborates on improving living standards regionally, such as the Cancer Center, that now makes it possible to have chemo processes and treatments locally. A lot of awareness campaigns have equally been steered by Her excellence around health issues ever since.

Stella Samboja also noted the county keeps making efforts towards HPV vaccine administration to the young girls and young women from an early age in a bid to reduce or keep at bay cervical cancer.

As an office they have also championed for the empowerment of women at the grassroot levels especially in the cottage industry. The launch of Vidasi market, gives women group and opportunity to not only access markets locally but also beyond for their beautifully, crafted baskets, key local cultural identities.

The introduction of pro-women savings outfit that encourages 300 Kenya shilling monthly deposits or rather at least 10 Kenya shillings daily continues to be positively received with Mwatate subcounty currently leading in registrations.

In her closing remarks at the summit, she also reassured residents of the plans were still underway regarding setting up an EPZ to sustain a section of residents through employment while making it possible to use local resources transforming them into not only viable exports in the near future but also actualize the vision to possibly stitch the necessaries locally.
