Local Teacher battling colleagues in the Global stage for 1m. Dollars

Amos Arumba, an ICT Department Head &Teacher In Kasigau Girls, Voi is one among the few hoping to achieve the Tabichi-esque Global Teacher of the Year feat that rocked our headlines not so long ago.

As reported by Nation, He is part of the nominees of this year’s Commonwealth Outstanding Teachers Award; An award in which the victor walks away with a whopping 1 million dollars. Yes! DOLLARS.

The special criteria-based-awards are slated for 28th April, And Amos Arumba, A Maseno University Alumni is among those holding their breath with just a week to go.

The Young teacher barely in his 30s has always been on the frontline of guiding and inspiring his students on areas of innovation and STEM at large..

A while ago, he successfully led the girls to be crowned winners of the Diamond Challenge co-organized by Sote Hub.

Speaking to voi2day, Amos expressed joy in being listed among the likes of Tabichi, citing it as a humbling experience that he doesn’t take for granted.

“I am super excited but still quite nervous. It feels phenomenal being on the same list as the Tabichi(s)”

Regarding the nomination, he highlighted,  “It wasn’t easy, first I shared my story about the problems facing my school and the community around.

Kasigau being a marginalized area and semi-arid. cases of early marriages, teenage pregnancies and sexual exploitation among the top reasons girls kept dropping out of school”

Further, he stated, “Our STEM programs have equally been of immense positive impact to the girls”
