Navigating the business landscape Post-COVID-19; Have this in mind

The pandemic continues to inflict the world, and as the numbers f infections continue to rise, our businesses are the biggest losers after the individuals, of course. The economy is plummeting day in day out, and recovery seems to be moving further as we all go broke and use up all our savings. The reset expressed in the workforce and work in general is a big problem because the impact is more negative to most people.

This pandemic has come at an unexpected time. It continues to affect strategies that were put in place to help the business be successful. With the current occurrences, it is clear that business strategies have been rendered completely useless, and a clean slate is necessary if we hope to recover post-COVID-19. The experience has, however, come with some very invaluable lessons which will help business owners plan in the future for all circumstances. It is bout time the business managements begin to look back at the previous strategies, re-adjust and re-configure the operation models and start working with the new reality.

Post COVID-19, every business will have to take its own path. Businesses with similar structures will go in different ways because some will scale down, and others will care up to their operations. This is based on the response business has on the pandemic, and it’s meant for the company. Some businesses plan on going back to work just as before. On the other hand, other companies are coming up with strategies to help in the recovery process. Members of the management team have tried responding to the pandemic in various ways. From retrenchments to forced unpaid leaves, the responses have been dynamic, but it is time to find recovery strategies. These decisions are vital in regaining the body to renewed states.

Businesses are expected to come up with ways in which to stabilize their operations in the least expected time. The creation of a plan which will ensure the state of the business returns back to normal. This is done through the identification of the capabilities of the business. These capabilities will help in strengthening the businesses’ ability to operate. Budget, rehire, resupply, and reopen the business with new strategies put in place. The renewed strategy is also essential as it helps in the making of good durable policies that will help in the sustainability of the organization. These strategies should be emergent and based on the lessons learned during these tough times.

Strategies put in place at this time should be resilient and based on weeding out the businesses’ weaknesses.  They should ensure it is better positioned to weather any economic imbalances that may arise from the pandemic and post the pandemic. The biggest lesson business owners have learned from the epidemic is the need for a sustainable future that can withstand various economic imbalances. We are sure to watch out for businesses putting in place measures that will help in business continuity and employee maintenance despite hard times.

Human resource management

The human resource sector has faced some significant issues globally and regionally as well. About 300,000 Kenyans have lost their jobs over the last three months. Another percentage of people have been placed on forced leave with no pay within the same period. Human resource managers have complained about the dormancy of their roles and the failure of their voices being heard. These times are critical for the managers, and they need to be alert as both employers and employees are looking to them for guidance.

HR practices have to change to ensure they accommodate the changes that have occurred over the year 2020. Human resource managers have come to deal with issues like reduction of salaries, the obligation of employers, and employee layoffs and ensure they do not offend the law through contract issues. The changes in the work situation, especially the work from home stitch is essential for managers to help employees understand what is expected. It s important to note that employees are first human beings, and several things can distract them. HR managers come in at this point to help employees understand the changes in the environment and how they should adapt to these situations.

Post COVID-19 Human resource management will have to look deeper into ways of adopting a culture where working from home can be flexible. It is also crucial for contracts to include critical situations that may affect the organization and the employees at large. The leadership of companies and businesses will have to look to HR leadership on how to make and implement decisions in the workplace.

The use of ICT and innovations in the workplace

ICT and various innovations ave ever been used as much as they are now. The use of video calls during the pre-corona era was mainly for communication and for the executives of organizations. The use of zoom, google duo, and skype is at arise as employees work from home and connect through these platforms. Innovations like remote health monitoring, autonomous farming, and IoT kitchen appliances are some of the most used innovations in the year, and more are being realized. In a world were a lot of people are tech-savvy, the use of innovations and ICT is yet to be fully adopted, especially in the region.

Organizations have found themselves adapting technology all of a sudden, and many mistakes have been made on the way. Organizations must adopt ICT post-COVID-19 and ensure all the employees are well trained on the use of innovations. The use of ICT will revolutionalize the workplace and break interdepartmental boundaries.

Digital marketing

Digital marketing has changed the world of marketing and business over the last few years. Still, it has definitely changed things during these pandemic times. Companies have been using traditional forms of advertising over the previous few years are now suddenly turning to digital types of advertising.

Regionally businesses have looked down on digital marketing options and have preferred the use of word of mouth for the continuity of their businesses. Marketing options for most companies have been facing to face interactions, excellent customer service, and the use of radio and television. Various forms of digital marketing like email marketing, social media marketing, and affiliate marketing are some of the most utilized forms of marketing today. The use of these forms of advertising is suddenly the way to go, and organizations are training their marketing departments on how to adapt. Post-COVID times, it will be necessary for organizations to adopt digital forms of marketing and ensure the marketing strategies are up to date.

As businesses work on rescaling, reinventing, and returning to regular running hours, it is essential to note that this is not the end. We still have a long way to go before the economy is back to normal. Statistics show that we may need close to 5 years before the economy can go back to what it was.
